AOD-9604 is a synthetic 16-amino-acid peptide corresponding to residues 177-191 of human growth hormone with an N-terminal tyrosine, cyclized through a Cys7–Cys14 disulfide. It was designed as the C-terminal fragment of hGH that retains the lipid-metabolism activity of the parent hormone without its growth-promoting activity.
Heffernan and colleagues compared hGH and AOD-9604 in mouse models, including β3-adrenergic-receptor knockouts, and reported that both compounds increased β3-AR mRNA in adipose tissue while their lipolytic actions were not mediated directly through that receptor, in a 2001 Endocrinology paper on hGH and its lipolytic fragment in mouse models. It is used in adipocyte and β-adrenergic signaling research.
