MOTS-c (mitochondrial open reading frame of the 12S rRNA-c) is a 16-amino-acid peptide encoded within mitochondrial DNA, Met-Arg-Trp-Gln-Glu-Met-Gly-Tyr-Ile-Phe-Tyr-Pro-Arg-Lys-Leu-Arg. It is one of the small mitochondrial-derived peptides studied as signaling molecules rather than as respiratory-chain components.

Lee and colleagues identified the peptide and reported that, in cultured cells, it inhibits the folate cycle and de-novo purine biosynthesis, leading to AMPK activation, in the 2015 Cell Metabolism paper that first described MOTS-c and its cellular actions. It is used in AMPK, one-carbon-metabolism, and mitochondrial-signaling assays.

Supplied as lyophilized powder, 10 mg or 40 mg per vial. Store sealed vials at 2–8 °C for short-term holding and at −20 °C for long-term storage, protected from light and moisture.

For the peer-reviewed background on this compound, see the Mitochondrial and Metabolic Peptides references in the Research Library. Every tested lot’s HPLC purity result is filed on the Certificates of Analysis page, and our Testing and Quality page explains what those certificates do and do not show.

Certificate of Analysis

Every lot Liv Pure ships is tested by an independent laboratory before release. The certificate of analysis reports chromatographic purity (HPLC) for that specific lot, and the current certificates for this compound are linked at the end of the description above, and every lot Liv Pure ships is listed on the Certificates of Analysis page. Match the lot number printed on the vial to the certificate before the material enters an assay. If a lot you hold is not listed, request its certificate from support@livpurewellness.com.
