Glutathione (GSH, γ-L-glutamyl-L-cysteinyl-glycine) is the most abundant low-molecular-weight thiol in cells, the principal intracellular reductant, and the conjugating substrate of the glutathione S-transferases.
Its protective roles, measurement, and biosynthesis are reviewed by Forman, Zhang and Rinna. Research-grade GSH is used as a redox standard, an antioxidant in cell-culture media and buffers, and a substrate in GST and glutathione-peroxidase assays.
Supplied as lyophilized powder, 600 mg or 1500 mg per vial. Store sealed vials at 2–8 °C for short-term holding and at −20 °C for long-term storage, protected from light and moisture.
